The curriculum of Shahbag Jamia is divided into the five following branches: 1. General Branch, 2. Girls’ Branch, 3. Hifz (Quran memorizing) Branch, 4. Kindergarten and 5. Qira’at (Phonetics of the Holy Quran).
Traditionally all Qaumi Madrasah in the Himalayan sub-continent follow a syllabus named ‘Dars-i Nizami’, which was formed in the seventeenth century. This syllabus is so fundamental and extraordinary that, with the changing of time, though the lower classes have a scope to add new textbooks and refine old ones, but no reformation is required in its original outline. Some of the notable subjects of this syllabus in Bangladesh are: Quran, Hadith, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Tafsir (interpretation of the Holy Quran), Arabic language, grammar and rhetoric, Usul-e Fiqh (Principles of Islamic law), Usul-i Tafsir (Principles of Interpretation of the holy Qur’an), Usul-i-Hadith (Principles of determining the quality of Hadith), partly Bangla-Urdu-English Language, History of Islam, etc. . Like other Qaumi Madrasah in Bangladesh, Shahbag Jamia is also a follower of Dars-i Nizami. However, in order to maintain the best possible coordination with the needs of the time, we take the steps to reform this curriculum specially for lower classes, form a review committee from time to time and initiate necessary corrections and additions. Thus, the refined curriculum of the orphanage branch and primary branch of Shahbag Jamia is the result of our own research and hard work. The syllabus of the girl’s branch is an abbreviation for the ten-year term of this Dars-i Nizami. In addition, there are distinct syllabuses for Tahfiz Al-Quran (Quran memorizing) classes and Dar Al-Qiraat (teaching the perfect pronunciation of the holy Quran) classes run during the month of Ramazan.
Shahbagh Jamia Madania Qasimul Uloom Orphanage is an exceptional educational orphanage in Bangladesh. Its location is in Jokiganj, Sylhet, a marginal and underprivileged region of the country. The fatherless and destitute children of this region were deprived of basic and natural rights like food, clothing, shelter, education, medical care etc. and were inevitably involved in inhumane child labor and thus the dream of a better future was washed away and a large part of the new generation instead of becoming proper human beings. It was increasing the path of despair and darkness. It was a very difficult and long-lasting social crisis, with no immediate solution for those who cared about people and society. To overcome this social crisis, Shahbagh Madrasa authorities established the orphanage in 2007 with the help of some noble people near and far. First, Mr. Haji Abdullah of the Madrasa’s neighboring village Mohidpur donated his 12th century land for this project. After that, the American-expatriate doctor of the same village came forward. Abdul Malik, with his financing, the construction of the first floor of the four-storied orphanage building was completed. After that, gradually, with the overall support of many philanthropists from home and abroad, the full building stood up. Despite all the facilities and management of the orphanage, it is not like an average orphanage, by the grace of Allah we have been able to give it the appearance of a full-fledged educational institution. As a result, the orphanage has been able to gain a wide reputation as an exceptional institution. The number of students is increasing rapidly due to better quality of education and good management. At present, about 600 orphans and helpless children are living in it, among them 40 children are receiving special permission ‘capitation’ from the concerned department of Bangladesh government. Standard food, clothing, educational materials and medicines are regularly provided free of charge to all the children in the orphanage. At present it employs 46 teachers and supervisors and 6 staff members. About 9 million taka ($83,000) is spent annually on the upbringing and education of these children and the salaries and allowances of the employed teachers. All this money has to be raised from donations from local and expatriate rich people. Recently, due to the increase in the number of orphans, due to lack of space in the existing building, the construction work of another five-storied orphanage building has been started at the northern end of the Jamia courtyard, two floors have already been completed and the work is going on without interruption. Once this is also completed we will be able to accommodate twice as many children. Note that the Shahbagh Jamia Orphanage has been registered and appreciated by the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh as a Standard Orphanage on 11-07-2010 and received the official certificate, registration number 1117/10. Then in this continuation of success and recognition, on 01-11-2016, the institution received registration from the Directorate of NGO Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh as a full-service NGO organization as a result of adopting and implementing multifaceted projects in the service of humanity in addition to orphan care, Registration No.-3052.
We are trying to nurture these orphans and helpless children with close care and love like a family, working to educate them with good education, so that they grow up to stand on their own feet and play a constructive role in the service of Islam, Muslims, country and society. . Along with this, we have been continuously taking and implementing one initiative after another to serve the poor and disabled, including various projects of shelter and sustenance for the oppressed refugee refugee Muslim community Rohingya. In fact, Allah is the Giver of Tawfiq and all our actions will be directed to Him. Therefore, we appeal to the noble and educated brothers and sisters of the country and abroad – participate in the service of humanity as much as you can, stand by the Shahbagh Madrasah and Orphanage, give a special one-time donation for the speedy completion of the construction of the five-storied orphanage building under construction, and be the guardian of one or more children. Be a special favor of God Almighty by becoming a sponsor! May Allah bless us so that we are able to do the right thing at the right time!
There are 3 main administrative bodies:
1. Majlis-i-Shura,
2. Majlis-i-Amilah and
3. Ihtimam.
This is the highest authority to run the madrasah. It has the supreme power over all departments of Jamia and decisions of this council are considered final.
The responsibility of this council is to implement the decisions taken by the Shura Council, to lead the internal affairs and to prepare proposals and plans for improving the quality of education.
The Arabic word ‘Ihtimam’ means principalship and who does Ihtimam is callea Muhtamim. He is appointed by Shura and the director of all departments of Madrasah. In the absence of Muhtamim there is a Nayib (vice-principal) for performing his work and cooperating with the Principal.
